The walk and the journey in the newness of Christ which is experienced by a believer, is one which is obtained by grace, hence no one can boast of his or her abilities as being a sustaining factor.
John 15:5 [AMP]:
I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.
The New man in Christ needs the help of God for his sustainance through Jesus Christ, hence he must abide by ensuring that he is in constant union and communication with God through Jesus Christ. One of the ways of facilitating this communication is through prayers.
Prayer is a form of communication that enables the new man in Christ to receive information from God through Christ, that he may know, understand and carryout the biddings of God, for which he was redeemed and sanctified.
John 15:16 [AMP]:
You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed and placed and purposefully planted you, so that you would go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit will remain and be lasting, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name [as My representative] He may give to you.
This enables the believer to renew his strength daily through the inspiration of God. Prayer does the following to the new man in Christ;
1. Prayer reveals the realness of God to the New man in Christ [Jer. 33:3].
2. Prayer helps the New man in Christ to abide in God, while facilitating and encouraging a deeper form of relationship with God [1 John 5:14].
3. Prayer helps the New man to understand the plans and purposes of God in respect to the assignment to which God has entrusted in his hands [Ephesians 1:18].
4. Prayer enables the New man in Christ to stay in form and shape, by keeping the fire of the Spirit burning and ensuring that he is spiritually alert [1 Thessalonians 5:19].
5. Prayer helps to keep the New man in Christ from fallen into temptations and limits the possibilities of him living wilfully in sin, because a praying man is always before God [Mathew 26:41].
THINGS TO NOTE:
A. Prayer is not just for accessing God's provisions, but it is a weapon of war that keeps the New man in Christ away from wilful sins.
B. Prayer is non negotiable for the New man in Christ, because a prayerless believer cannot be in tune and in touch with the realities of God.
C. Prayerlessness gives room to the exaltation of the flesh above the Spirit, hence such actions is inimical to the growth of the New man in Christ.
Blessings.
