THE BELIEVER'S RIGHTEOUSNESS IN GOD [Pt 2] - Awe Hilary

THE BELIEVER'S RIGHTEOUSNESS IN GOD [Pt 2]

- Awe Hilary

When discussing on the subject of the righteousness of a believer in God, we must come to the undeniable fact that righteousness is first a state or position in God, before it becomes an act. This is because, God's natural state is Holiness and His deeds reflect His nature, and they are termed righteous. So righteousness is a display of God's holiness.

Exodus 15:11 (ESV)

Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?

So for mankind to experience God's nature, and for him to reflect God's righteousness, he has to be called first by God. This implies that righteousness is not a display of good deeds when a man or woman is outside of God's calling, but rather a display of God's nature in deeds, from his or her position in God.

Leviticus 20:26 (NKJV)

[26]And you shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine.

There are people who have rejected God, yet they do good to people around, some are involved in a great deal of philanthropy, so also with others who are outside the callings of God. The deeds of such people are not termed righteousness, because righteousness is not a display of self, rather a display of God's nature.

Righteousness does not originate from self, but from God, hence the believers righteousness in God, is his or her display of God's nature as a state and in deeds, which brings glory to God, as the source of what is being displayed.

Matthew 5:16 [AMP]

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven

THINGS TO NOTE:

1. You can't display God's righteousness if you don't accept His call.

2. The acceptance of God's call, leads to the reception of His nature.

3. He who has God's nature, is he who is in the position to perform righteousness.

In the Part 3 to part 4, we shall see how the term "Righteousness" played out in the Old and New Covenant.

.... TO BE CONTINUED.
