MODULE 3: THE NEW TESTAMENT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR HUMAN ENEMIES BY EVANGELIST OGHOGHO IKPONWOSA (PHD)
We shall continue with the list of laws given to the Old Testament Saints and the penalty that follows them which clearly shows the distinction between the Old and New Testaments in this module.
5. Old Testament Saints were not to plant different seed crops on the same field. Lev 19:19. Many Christian farmers will be guilty of this today if this law still applies to us.
6. They were not to wear a clothing of mixed linen and wool. Lev. 19:19.
7. They were not to shave around the side of their heads. I believe most of us male believers today would have been guilty of this law if it was still applicable to us. Lev 19:27.
8. An homosexual should be put to death physically. Lev 20:13. I am not saying that homosexuality is not a sin today but the death penalty is no longer applicable as it was in the Old Testament.
9. They were required to keep all the Sabbath days. Lev 19:3, 19:30. God gave the Children of Israel several Sabbaths. Sabbath day is not limited to Saturday.
Only one of the many Sabbaths is a Saturday Ex. 20:9-11, Lev 23:3. However God gave them several other Sabbath days which will obviously fall into other days of the week depending on the year and month.
They were to have a Sabbath rest on the first day of every Seventh month. Lev 23:24-25.
The 10th day of every Seventh month was also another Sabbath day. Lev 23:26-32.
The 15th and 22nd day of every Seventh month of the year were also Sabbath days. Lev 23:33-39. They must not do any work on these days.
These Sabbath days were not necessarily Saturdays but could fall on any day of the week.
10. Any one who blasphemed or caused God should be stoned to death. Lev 24:10-23. Obviously we don't stone people to death today just because they caused or blasphemed God but we would rather give them the gospel and pray for them to be saved. If we go ahead to stone such a person to death, then we will have to answer to the Government of our nation.
There are several other laws that we can look at which clearly shows the distinction between the Old and New Testaments but I believe that the once listed here are enough to establish this fact.
It is very clear that we cannot just take something we read in the Old Testament and begin to do it because it is in the Bible without first checking it out with the provisions of the New Testament.
In the next module we shall look at when and how God decided to introduce the New Testament.
To be continued...
