MODULE 4: THE NEW TESTAMENT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR HUMAN ENEMIES BY EVANGELIST OGHOGO IKPONWOSA (PHD)
In today’s module we shall look at how God made the decision to change the Old Covenant to the New Covenant. Clearly scriptures teach us that God found fault with the Old covenant hence He decided to bring into existence a New covenant. Let us look at the scriptures that say this.
Heb. 8:6-13
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.KJV
Jer. 31:29-34
29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge.
30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. KJV
These scriptures clearly tell us that God has made a change by bringing into existence the New Covenant.
Notice that there will still be a law in the New Covenant but this law will be written in the hearts of those who come into this New Covenant.
Also God will give them the ability to walk in His New Covenant and will help them use this ability.
The book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus is now our High Priest in the New Covenant. He entered into the holy place once and for all with His own blood to make atonement for us (Heb. 9:11-28).
According to Hebrews chapter 10:1-18, the law being a shadow of things to come could not make them perfect hence sin was remembered yearly. Jesus came to take away the first (Old Covenant) that He may establish the second (New Covenant).
In the Next module we shall begin to look closely at some specific things Jesus did and said which show that He actually came to take away (or fulfill) the law of the Old Covenant and establish His own law of the New Covenant.
