MODULE 22 THE NEW TESTAMENT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR HUMAN ENEMIES BY EVANGELIST OGHOGHO IKPONMWOSA (PHD)
In this module we shall continue to look at what Apostle John said in re-echoing what Jesus said about LOVE.
1 John 4:15-17
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the LOVE that God hath to us. God is LOVE; and he that dwelleth in LOVE dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our LOVE made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.KJV
In this scripture Apostle John tells us that God dwells in anyone who confesses that Jesus is the son of God and that that person also dwells in God.
In other words we are grafted into the vine and are abiding in God (John 15:1-12) or immersed into or baptised into Christ (Gal 3:27) at our new birth experience.
Remember that confessing that Jesus is the son of God is how we became born again. This means that at the new birth we were grafted into God and brought into union with Him.
Apostle John tells us here that we know and believe the love that God has for us. He then immediately proceeded to inform us that God is LOVE and anyone who dwells in LOVE is dwelling in God and God is dwelling in him. This is really an important statement to consider.
Apostle John is actually telling us that the way to keep abiding in God after we are grafted into the vine at salvation is to keep abiding in LOVE. LOVE is the way to abide in Christ (John 15:1-12). It is the way to do righteousness being the one law of the New Covenant (Romans 13:8-10, 1John 3:7,10).
Anyone who is not abiding in LOVE is not dwelling in God but has been dis-grafted from the vine life. Such a person is abiding in spiritual death and darkness (1John 2:11, 3:14). Remember that LOVE is the law of the New Covenant hence when we fail to walk in LOVE we have transgressed the new Covenant law of Christ (1John 3:4, Gal 6:1-2).
Apostle John made a very important statement that as our LOVE is made perfect we will have boldness for the day of Judgement because as God is that is how we are now in this world. He is actually saying because God is LOVE and we are abiding in LOVE, we are like God now in this world hence we have boldness to face God on the day of judgement because we are already like Him.
Any believer who is not walking in LOVE (hence not dwelling in God and God in him) cannot have boldness for the day of Judgement because he is not living out the LOVE nature of God that was imparted to him at his new birth experience.
Such a person is actually abiding in spiritual death and darkness and does not have eternal life abiding in him (1John 2:11, 3:14-15). These are serious statements we cannot afford to ignore as believers.
