MODULE 23 THE NEW TESTAMENT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR HUMAN ENEMIES BY EVANGELIST OGHOGHO IKPONMWOSA (PHD)
In this module we shall continue to look at what Apostle John said in re-echoing what Jesus said about LOVE.
1 John 4:18-19
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.KJV
Apostle John continued his admonition on LOVE by telling us that there is no fear in LOVE. He just told us in verse 17 of 1John chapter 4 that we have boldness for the day of Judgment because as God is (God is love) so we have become (as we abide in LOVE) now in this world.
What He is actually saying is that if we are abiding in LOVE we are abiding in God and we have no reason to be afraid of being harmed by the devil in this world or any reason to be afraid that we will miss heaven.
All fear disappears for the man dwelling in LOVE because such a man is dwelling in God and in God there cannot be fear (which is synonymous with darkness).
Apostle John proceeded to inform us that perfect LOVE casts out fear. The LOVE of God in us casts out from us the following fear:
1. The fear of uncertainty in this world because in LOVE we are confident that all things will always work out for our good because we LOVE God (Romans 8:28)
2. The fear of facing God on judgement day because we know we are already like Him now as we dwell in LOVE (1John 4:16-17).
Fear has torment. Anyone who is not dwelling in LOVE will definitely live in fear and will experience the torment that accompanes it. Fear is not of God because God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power of LOVE and of a sound mind (2Tim 1:7).
Job’s experience shows us that fear is of darkness hence what we fear will be attracted to happen to us (Job 3:25). The knowledge of the LOVE of God for us will naturally destroy all fear.
God LOVES us just the way He LOVES Jesus (John 17:23). This knowledge changed my life forever as a Teenager.
I failed Him several times but I knew He still LOVED me and would accept me back into His arms if I would just repent and receive His forgiveness freely offered to cleanse me from sin.
Apostle John proceeded to tell us that anyone who is still living in fear has not been made perfect in LOVE. Such a person does not understand the LOVE of God for him neither has he learned to dwell in that LOVE.
God LOVED us first and that is why we can ever LOVE Him or others around us. The knowledge of the depth of His LOVE for us moves us to LOVE Him and everyone around us just like He does.
This is why Apostle Paul desired that we should know the LOVE of God which surpasses all knowledge so that we can be filled with the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:17-19).
