We looked at cases of judgement in the Old Testament in the last two modules. In this module we shall begin to look at cases of judgement in the New Testament
FIRST CASE: ANANIAS AND SAPPHIRA
In Acts 5:1-10 Apostle Peter declared the counsel or mind of God as was revealed to him on the case of Ananias and Sapphira.
Notice that Apostle Peter did not pray that they should die but simply declared the mind of God on the issue as God’s servant.
Even in this extreme case where God has already judged those who have sinned, we can clearly see from scriptures that the Prophet and other believers to whom this verdict is revealed can stand in the gap in love to plead with God to reverse the judgement and make provision for the repentance of the sinners (Ezek 22:29-31, Exo 32:7-14, Gen18:23-33, Num14:10-20;16:20-26).
I believe that God would have changed His judgement of death on Ananias and Sappphira (even though they deserved it), if the brethren including Peter had interceded for them even though God had already decided it (Ezek 22:29-31).
God always spares people or reduces their punishment if He finds an intercessor that stands in the gap or when those involved cry out to Him even when they deserve His judgement.
Many believers will not want to do this but this is what love would do knowing the great price God paid to give sinners an opportunity to repent, how terrible hell fire is and the fact that men who die without God will spend eternity in weeping and gnashing of their teeth in the lake of fire.
To be continued…
