The law never made anything or anyone perfect.
Hebrews 7:19 [NLT]:
For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
This is because sin which ruled in the flesh [by reason of the Adamic nature] took occasion of the law to reveal sin to men through the flesh, hence men never knew what sin was except through the law.
Romans 7:7 [NLT]:
Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”
The law was punitive [Judgement], revealing the sins of men to them through the weakness of the flesh, hence righteousness could not be attained through the law.
Moreover, Abraham the patriarch and his offsprings received the promise, and he also received the imputation of righteousness not by the law or in its obedience, but through faith in God.
Romans 4:13 [NLT]:
Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith
Furthermore, prophet Noah was also a recipient of the gift of righteousness through faith in God, by believing and obeying God to the letter concerning things which were to come, which eyes has never seen before.
Hebrews 11:7 [NLT]:
It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.
The love of God came not to reveal sin through the law, but to unveil the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ, that all who believe will receive that same righteousness which could not be obtained through the law but by grace alone.
