The Mosaic law in itself had no faults neither did it contain unrighteousness because the law of God is holy and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.
Romans 7:12 [AMP]:
So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
Moreover, if the Mosaic law by God is holy, righteous and good, so how did a good law bring about death to those who were practitioners of the law?
The law is not made for the righteous but for sinners, hence a person [an offender] comes to the knowledge of his or her sin by virtue of the law.
1 Timothy 1:9 [AMP]:
understanding the fact that law is not enacted for the righteous person [the one in right standing with God], but for lawless and rebellious people, for the ungodly and sinful, for the irreverent and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,
1 Timothy 1:10 [AMP]:
for sexually immoral persons, for homosexuals, for kidnappers and slave traders, for liars, for perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine.
However, sin took advantage of the law which is holy, righteous and good, to bring accusations against the practitioners of the law, hence bringing condemnation upon them unto death, because the wages of sin is death.
Romans 7:13 [AMP]:
Did that which is good [the Law], then become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, in order that it might be revealed as sin, was producing death in me by [using] this good thing [as a weapon], so that through the commandment sin would become exceedingly sinful.
Furthermore, this made the Mosaic law ineffective in the sense that the law was weakened through the flesh because sin reigned in the flesh. The flesh was under the control of sin [ the falling nature], hence whenever the law was applied, it ended up producing more sin and death.
Romans 8:3 [AMP]:
For what the Law could not do [that is, overcome sin and remove its penalty, its power] being weakened by the flesh [man’s nature without the Holy Spirit], God did: He sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful man as an offering for sin. And He condemned sin in the flesh [subdued it and overcame it in the person of His own Son].
The Mosaic law could not offer salvation for the practitioners of the law, neither could it take away the penalty of sin permanently, because they were constantly being accused by the law through the flesh.
Moreover, if the Mosaic law could not condemn sin in the flesh by taking away it's penalty, then it means that the Mosaic law was defective, and that the first convenant could not bring perfection concerning the plans of God in the eradication of sin and it's consequences, hence this necessitated a second convenant to be enacted.
Hebrews 8:7 [AMP]:
For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second one or an attempt to institute another one [the new covenant].
This is because God found fault with the people by reason of the law, for whenever they disobeyed the law, sin accused them before God through the flesh, hence their sin had to be covered before God by the blood of animals which was not sufficient, which led to a repetitive process every year.
Hebrews 8:8 [AMP]:
However, God finds fault with them [showing its inadequacy] when He says, “BEHOLD, THE DAYS WILL COME, SAYS THE LORD, WHEN I WILL MAKE and RATIFY A NEW COVENANT WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF JUDAH;
However, the new convenant instituted by God made the first one obsolete.
Hebrews 8:13 [AMP]:
When God speaks of “A new covenant,” He makes the first one obsolete. And whatever is becoming obsolete (out of use, annulled) and growing old is ready to disappear.
More interestingly, the New convenant reveals that the old convenant was actually a shadow or a copy of the New Convenant, but couldn't be revealed when the Old Convenant was still in place.
Hebrews 9:8 [AMP]:
By this the Holy Spirit signifies that the way into the Holy Place [the true Holy of Holies and the presence of God] has not yet been disclosed as long as the first or outer tabernacle is still standing [that is, as long as the Levitical system of worship remains a recognized institution].
