The role of the Holy Spirit is to reveal Jesus Christ to the believer and through the believers revelation of Christ, the light of God is beamed to the world. The believer in Christ is an illuminated soul who becomes a visual imagery of God on the earth through Jesus Christ.
Mathew 5:16 [AMP]:
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.
The Spirit of God in the life of a believer is reformative in essence which leads to the transformation of that believer. This implies that the Spirit of God brings about change in orientation and perspective, thereby making the believer to become like Jesus Christ in deeds and action. This is done by the renewal of the mind of the believer by the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 4:23 [AMP]:
and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude],
More also, the operation of the Holy Spirit is based on the fact that man's will is still intact, hence for a believer to experience the move of the Holy Spirit, he or she has to submit or yield to the Spirit of God.
Romans 12:1 [AMP]:
Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.
The salvation experience of a believer in Christ, does not take away his or her personal responsibilities or duties to God, rather it amplies it, creating a consciousness of consecration which is a logical act of worship to God. The act of submission is an indication of how knowledgeable we are about God and what He did for us through Christ.
How is submission to God achieved?
1. Having a consciousness of who you are in God through Christ. The more conscious you are of your identity in Christ, the greater the level of your humility.
Humility is the raw material for submission.
Psalm 25:9 [AMP]:
He leads the humble in justice, And He teaches the humble His way.
**Your deliberate and continual disobedience towards God, is an act of pride and rebellion**
2. Study the Word of God to show yourself approved. The purpose of the Word of God is to feed your spirit which is in partnership with the Holy Spirit, thereby causing your spirit to align with the position of the Holy Spirit on all matters. The resultant effect of this is that the mind of the believer is constantly renewed by the word of God, which creates dominance of spirit filled information which are translated to Godly actions.
2 Timothy 3:16 [AMP]:
All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage];
The word of God trains a believer in the acts of righteousness through the renewal of the mind.
THINGS TO NOTE:
1. You were saved to become a light to the world and not to fuel the darkness of the world.
2. Salvation does not take away the personal responsibilities of believers towards their acts of consecration and worship to God.
3. The flesh is fed by its desires, hence the new man in Christ should continually feed on the word of God which is the requirement of his new nature. The dominance of the word of God in the life of the believer, the less or non existent effect of the flesh in his life.
