HEAVEN & THE KINGDOM OF GOD [Pt 12]
..... Discovering Heaven.
Understanding the Abrahamic Covenant.
POINT 1:
The bestowment of God's Covenant on Abram, which makes him the source through whom God's promises will come into effect on the earth [Genesis 17:4].
Genesis 17:4
[4]“As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.
While growing up as a young Christian, there was a popular song being sang in many churches; Abraham's blessings are mine🎺, Abraham's blessings are mine🎺, I am blessed in the morning🎺, I am blessed in the evening🎺, Abraham's blessings are mine🎺. This song is symbolic because its lyrics hold a deep secret which have been revealed to many, while it's the earnest desire of God that it be revealed to all.
The Covenant of God takes a systematic approach, in a consistent pattern, which leaves no gap in it or room for assumption. In the time of Noah, the Covenant was initiated, which would run through his descendants, and in Abram, thesame Covenant brought a deeper perspective, which makes Abram the father of many nations, a vessel through whom Kings would emanate from.
Genesis 17:6
[6]I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.
This makes Abram a personality that is greatly referenced by many religions, but the idea of God was not in a religious ideology, but a Covenant. Hence, while it is true that many nations proceeded out of Abram, not all Nations had the established path way of the Covenant, because Abram became a father to a mixed multitude ( bearers and non bearers of the Covenant), which was the product of a failure in his choice.
Genesis 17:9
[9]And God said to Abraham: “As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.
The promise of God to make nations out of him, was intended to make Covenanted nations out of him, and not a mixed multitude. The claim of sonship to Abram was on the foundations of God's Covenant and not necessarily through physical birth, and this was why Paul the Apostle spoke to the Jews about the originality of their Jewish status, as one of a more spiritual connection than physical, which is in the Spirit and not in the letter.
Romans 2:28-29
[28]For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh;
[29]but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
THINGS TO NOTE:
1. Circumcision was not the Covenant that God made with Abram, it was a sign of the Covenant.
Genesis 17:11
[11]and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.
2. The Covenant of God is the Word of God which establishes His plan and purpose, which is in line with His will.
3. The Nations of God are a Covenanted People who are established in God's Convenant by His Word.
