HEAVEN & THE KINGDOM OF GOD [Pt 14 B]
..... Discovering Heaven.
[ ISAAC & ISHMAEL]
- Awe Hilary
Pt 3:
The promise of fruitfulness and exceeding greatness [Genesis 17:6].
Pt: 7
The promise of the next in line who will continue God's expansionist agenda of this Convenant [Genesis 17:19, 21].
Genesis 17:18-19
[18]And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!”
[19]Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.
In the part A of this article, it was established that God's Covenant signifies His Lordship as God over a people, which comes by divine election. God is the authority over His Covenant, and the Covenanted are the receptors of God's provisions through the establishment of the Covenant. It was also established that prosperity does not define the Covenant of God, rather what we call prosperity are the provisions of God which makes Him the enabler.
John 3:27
[27]John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.
The story of Isaac and Ishmael gives a perfect depiction of what it means to be Covenanted to God, and what it also means to be empowered by God as the source and provider for humanity. Isaac was the bearer of God's Covenant, and not Ishmael for the following reasons;
1. God's Words cannot be broken. The promise of a son, Isaac, was given to Abraham, and Ishmael was not the fulfilment of that promise [Genesis 17:18-19].
2. Abraham was legally married to Sarah, and they were both Jews. The election of God was to the Jews first before the Gentiles. God refers to Sarah as Abraham's wife, but Hagai, as a maid [Genesis 16:9].
3. The Covenant of God will run through the Jewish blood, which would produce the Messiah, through which both Jews and Gentiles will be connected to God. An Ishmael as a Covenant bearer will violate God's Word, and pollute the Jewish bloodline, because Hagai was of an Egyptian descent [Genesis 22:18].
4. The prophecy of Jesus Christ was fulfilled through the Covenanted bloodline of Abraham which transcends from Isaac to Israel, and in Israel was the Messiah manifested [Mathew 1:1-17]. This is a confirmation that God's Word cannot be broken.
THINGS TO NOTE:
1. The Testimony of Jesus Christ is the fulfilment of prophecy.
2. God's Word cannot be broken or altered by time. It's unchanging and new every day.
3. The Covenant of God is in the bloodline of Jesus Christ, and through His blood, all are brought into the assembly of God.
