THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS [Pt 1]
- Awe Hilary
As a believer in Jesus Christ, are you completely forgiven? Do you seek forgiveness? Or are you in hope that you will be forgiven someday?
These are very critical questions posed to the believer in Christ, and these questions are very important, because they define the whole essence as it pertains to the relationship between the believer and the Maker, Who is God.
Before these questions can be answered, it is imperative for us to understand what sin is. Many have limited sin to outcomes, while neglecting the source that produce those outcomes. For example, stealing, adultery, murder etc, are regarded as sin or sinful actions, while we neglect the nature that produces them.
Romans 5:12
[12]Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
Sin is not just an action, but a nature which has an image and likeness that is contrary to the image and likeness of God. It is also important to note that God did not impute sin on the first Adam, rather He warned him of the consequence of disobedience, which opened the door for the nature of sin to come in and become the new image and likeness of the first Adam.
Genesis 2:17
[17]but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
What happened to the first Adam was beyond disobedience, rather it was putting off the image and likeness of God, and taking up a new nature which is sin, hence his separation from God was automatic, because the two nature's where incompatible with each other.
This is why the image of sin became replicative in all mankind, which was not because they all committed iniquity against God, but because they were sold to sin by the first Adam.
Romans 5:14
[14]Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
However, all sinned and fell short of the glory of God.
THINGS TO NOTE:
1. Sin has an image and likeness.
2.The image of sin, is the nature of sin, and the likeness are the outcomes or the products of that image.
3. You don't work for a nature, it's inherent from a source.
