In the beginning (Genesis 1:1), where the first words recorded in the
bible, and today we wake up to that reality, as we are made witnesses
to the first day of the year 2018,which marks the beginning of the year. The word “beginning”
is very important, because it is always associated with the foundation
of things, as this referenced the laying of the foundations of heaven and earth
by God.
Foundations are underlying structures on which “building
blocks” are laid, and these go a long way to determine the durability and life
span of the finished product. The same can also be said about humans, as there
is no single person without a foundation, and this is reflective of the scripture
that says “if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” PSALM
11:3 (NKJV).
Man is a “spiritual house” ( 1 peter 2:4-5)
with a different kind of foundation which is contrary to the physical
structures that we see around us. In the word of spirituality where man is a
major player, words and actions are erectors of foundations. God has endowed
and empowered man with an oratory ability that can call forth life, and at the
same time kill, for the bible establishes this fact in the book of Proverbs
18:21
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat
its fruits” (NKJV). This means that when you speak life, you will eat
the fruits of life, but when your speech is contrary to life, death becomes a
possession and an inheritance.
I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, that death shall never be your
portion in the new year, Amen.
God created the heavens and the earth, not by hands but
through spoken words (Psalm 33:6), and He saw the creations of His mouth, for
they were good. In the same vein, man has the capacity to speak his future into
existence, because he was created in the image of God (Gen 1:27). However, it is
pertinent to note that, we carry our futures in our mouth, and whatever we
create of that future through our words, we shall partake of it in full
measure. In view of this, we should at all times be clothed with our “prophetic
garments” while maximizing our oratory capacity in creating how we want the
year to be for us, by speaking into existence our dreams and aspirations while
rebuking and obliterating from existence things and activities contrary to
God’s plan for us.
Moreover, foundations are also built by a person’s action
which is supervised by a will, and every will outside God, leads to a sinful
action which is reflective of the content of the heart. Man was not created to
be a robot, but he was given a will by God to make choices between a foundation
of life or death, and as a result he is liable for every action he takes. Every
action that leads to sin is a rejection of Jesus Christ who is the cornerstone
of our foundation, and such foundations cannot stand the test of time, because
without the corner stone, the laborers labor in vain. If you are desirous of
having a solid foundation that cannot be moved by the tidal winds of life in
this New Year and beyond, then it is imperative that you make Jesus Christ the
cornerstone of your life by rejecting Satan and all his works.
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will
liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain
descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it
did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these
sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his
house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew
and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”- MATHEW 7:24-27
(NKJV).
However, as the new year begins today, while we wait
patiently for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is indeed very
near, foundations will be tested, and only those built upon the Rock of Ages
will survive the test. (Mathew 7:24-27).
