Have you ever seen a death row inmate waiting for the day of his execution? There is no hope of living beyond the set date of his execution unless he is pardoned by a higher authority of the state or country, who might be a governor or president.
The law demands that he dies and the law is justified to take his life because he owes a debt to be paid for his sins.
Romans 6:23
[23]For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
This was the scenerio mankind found himself after the fall of the first Adam in the garden, which led to the introduction of sin, not just as an act, but a nature.
Romans 5:12
[12]Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
The nature of man was altered because the first Adam was created in perfection, but when he disobeyed God, he lost that state and nature of innocence and perfection, hence taking up the nature of sin [ a state of corruption and imperfection] which is in enemity with God.
Furthermore, the nature of sin which the first Adam bore became his new nature, hence it became implicative of all men who came through his roots. It is a natural law that nature begets nature; a lion cannot give birth to a goat, so also a goat cannot give birth to a lion. Everything that was created was commanded to give birth according to it's kind, hence the nature of sin cannot beget righteousness. This was how you were implicated by the sin of the first Adam.
However, mankind was guilty as charged by reason of the first Adam's sin, condemned by the law to pay the debt of sin which is death.
Romans 4:15
[15]because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.
Moreover, God overturned this verdict and paid the price for mankind through Jesus Christ even when they were still sinners because He loved them as His own and the most treasured of His possessions.
Romans 5:8
[8]But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God did this for you because you are special.
