In the previous part of this series, we looked at two dimensions of God's love which has to do with reconciliation and pardon of sin. However, in continuation of this series, we would be looking at yet another dimension of God's love which is justification.
3. Justification:
For a man to be justified, two conditions must be met which are;
1. The provisions of the law must be sufficiently applied and satisfied.
2. All pending debts must be cancelled or written off.
The law demands justice, and sin demands it's wages which is death, hence for justification to take place, these two conditions must be fulfilled.
The law is made for a sinner, for without sin the law has no application.
1 Timothy 1:9
[9]knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
1 Timothy 1:10
[10]for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine.
The law is vengeful which constantly seeks justice against the sinner, hence he or she is continually reminded of his or her sins.
Romans 4:15
[15]because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.
God in His infinite and unquantifiable wisdom, pardoned the sinner by taking responsibility for the judgement [justice] that would have been melted out on the sinner, through an exchange. God said, instead of mankind to die and be lost eternally, take my Son, Jesus Christ as payment for the sin of mankind [emphasis mine]. Sin was exchanged with Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21
[21]For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
In so doing, the justice [judgement] of the law was served in Jesus Christ, hence the sinner was acquitted of his sins [debt free] which was paid for by God through Jesus Christ. This payment by Christ, made the acquitted free from the law and it's demands, which required the observance of written codes.
Romans 7:6
[6]But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
Justification is a legal proclamation which confers on the justified, the right of innocence through Jesus Christ, hence to whom who has been justified, there is no more condemnation
Romans 8:1
[1]There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT JUSTIFCATION:
1. Jesus Christ was a suitable substitute for our sins because He fulfilled the law by living it out perfectly, hence the law could not be enacted against Him, because the law is not made for the righteous but for sinners.
2. If Jesus Christ is a substitute for our sins through the fulfillment of the law, then it means that our freedom was based on our fulfilment of the law through Jesus Christ.
3. If Jesus Christ fulfilled the law perfectly, then Jesus Christ has become our standard and no longer the law.
4. The acquitted who is the believer in Jesus Christ, no longer looks at the law but Christ.
5. The law can only be fulfilled through faith in Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5:17-18
[17]“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
[18]For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
You have been acquitted of your sins and justified by God, let no one tell you differently, for you are a free man or woman in Jesus Christ.
Hallelujah.
Blessings.
