THE BELIEVER'S RIGHTEOUSNESS IN GOD [Pt 1] - Awe Hilary

THE BELIEVER'S RIGHTEOUSNESS IN GOD [Pt 1]

- Awe Hilary

The believers righteousness in God, is the power of God that works in the believer to will and to act in the fulfilment of God's purpose.

Philippians 2:13

[13]for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

For the purpose of emphasis, the critical components of the above definition will be hilighted as follows;

1. The power of God at work.

2.  To Will > God's will in man's will.

3. To Act > God's action in man's act.

It is important to note that the position of the believer in the righteousness of God, is not by the attainment of his or her effort, rather it's the expression of God's power in the reckoning or the crediting to him or her by faith. This implies that the conferment of righteousness on a man by God, is God's jurisdiction and not man's achievement.

In the era of Abraham which was before the Law, he believed the promises of God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness.

Genesis 15:5-6

[5]Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”

[6]And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

Righteousness did not come by the Law, but by faith, which is in the dependence or reliance on God in the expression of His power in bringing to pass the promise, as we could see in the era of Abraham. In this sense, the one to whom righteousness is credited, have nothing to boast about, or reference to self, because it is only God that has the power to reckon a person with the state of righteousness.

Romans 4:2-3

[2]For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

[3]For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”

THINGS TO NOTE:

1. The state of righteousness is only given by God, as an expression of His authority and power.

2. The labours of men can only earn them wages which is an obligation to the one who works, hence the pursuit of self righteousness cannot earn the gift of God.

3. The position of righteousness is earned by faith and faith alone in God.
